Double Chocolate Avocado Mousse

It’s all Carol’s fault – she made me do it! Lovely Carol of Retired? No one told me! She reminds us about the National Mousse Day and then makes an excellent point about all these “national” food days. You have to read her post to get the brunt of her argument: National Mousse Day…Yet another one! I completely agree, yet I am still repeating this recipe just because my husband finds it delicious.

It’s summer, everybody is trying to look slim and feel healthy; meanwhile, all of you, beautiful people, crave some exceedingly decadent, sinfully chocolate desserts – confess! Relax, you are not alone, as confirmed by the classics. Here is my quote for today:

You see – even Charles Dickens felt the same way! However, we do want to stay slim and healthy, so numerous chocolate avocado mousse recipes have been popping all over the internet for a number of years already. Mine is just another take on it.

A couple of ripe Haas avocados get peeled, chunked, and dropped into a food processor or blender, followed by soy milk, blue agave, a splash of vanilla extract, and, of course, unsweetened cocoa powder. Press the button and, while it’s whirling, entertain your kids with a chocolate song.

By the time the song is finished, so is your mousse. You might want to check on it to see if the sides should be scraped and give it a taste, in case you want to add a bit more agave or make it a little thinner by adding a little more soy milk.

You know what a chocolate mousse looks like – just make sure it’s blended to uniform silky smoothness. But I always abide by My Own Rules of Dessert, and Rule #2 states, The More Chocolate, the Better (for my rules of dessert, click here)! That’s why I have a hidden resource: sugar-free chocolate chips.

Here it is, your exceedingly decadent, sinfully double chocolate, yet eminently healthy dessert. Indulge yourself and stay slim and healthy the whole summer!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 2 heaping tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup soy milk or any other milk substitute
  • 3/4 cup agave
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sugar free chocolate or carob chips for garnish

PROCEDURE

  • Peel and chunk avocados, place into food processor or blender.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients.
  • Blend well. Scrape the sides, if needed.
  • Serve well chilled, garnished with chocolate or carob chips.

Enjoy!

Interesting! Agave and avocados? Neat! And for a Locavore, doable here in California!
    🙂 Yum!

    1. Absolutely very easily doable, but you must use Haas avocados, otherwise there is an unpleasant aftertaste.

Oh, interesting. So it hasn’t been my imagination, or a bad pick, that some avos have an aftertaste (reminds me of the best line from a film: “the after-taste of manipulation.” -I must remember that for a Friday post…).
Hmm, I’ll have to try this soon!
        Thanks, Dolly!
Big Air Hugs to you, too! 🙂
