Parval Sabzi Try

Still in the Internet flux, Beautiful People, so I am using this moment to repeat a report of a culinary experiment – enjoy!

Yes, beautiful people, I mean it. It’s not a typo. I mean “try,” not “fry.” Who am I to presume to attempt an authentic Indian recipe? I can only try. This is what happened. I was finally so consumed with curiosity that I made a trip to Fort Lauderdale and went on a treasure hunt at Patel Brothers store myself, rather than sending my husband. In addition to a huge produce section that contains all kinds of mysteries, there are several isles full of spices and other goodies, just as mysterious and fascinating. I must’ve spent two hours there, slowly exploring every shelf and consulting Internet on my phone.

As you walk in, you step into the fragrant and verdant world of vegetables. Right next to little cute egg-shape  eggplants (I couldn’t resist getting a few!) and not far from my  – by now – friends Tindora Ivy Gourds, there…

    1. If you have a possibility of having things delivered from Prague, you could get anything, I am sure.
      Have a wonderful weekend, Michael!

      1. Thats true, Dolly! Prague is perfect in culture, and also in food. Travelling by myself would take over 12 hours, because there is only one connection by railway, over 60 km far away frome here. It would be easier from Paris or London to Prague. Lol Its a crazy political situation. 😉 Enjoy a wonderful Sunday! Michael xx

      2. This is crazy! But can’t you perhaps order things from Prague through internet? Or from anywhere else, for that matter?
Have a great weekend, dear friend.

      4. The weekend continues because it’s Memorial Day long weekend. I am not working today, other than preparing for the week ahead. It’s nice to have more time to bake and cook something new.

      5. Have a blessed celebrations. Here yesterday we are officially – by radio stations – are only been told about “a public holiday in the USA”. There are still some in the higher ranks who cannot overcome surrender to the Allies. ;-( xx

      6. Well, Memorial Day really has very little to do with WWII. It has started by freed slaves in the aftermath of the Civil War and it honors all American soldiers who died in all wars.
Sadly, I am familiar with the anti-Allies sentiment in Germany.

      7. Oh, thank you for the explaination, Dolly! But these sad sentiment in Germany is very bad.

      9. Indeed, Dolly! Its Germany nowadays. Actually i am ranting about GoogleMaps. Last week i had published some images to names stels of the war monument, here in the village. Google has deleted them, now the fourth time. After a re-upload now three of four steles are online (Geo Coordinates: 49.58264963043071, 12.524617689955742). The forth name stele is with names from 1944-45. I am sure there are war criminals on it. The monument was renovated in 2020. ;-( xx

      10. Ah, so now Goggle is getting politically involved? What a shame!
Talking about war criminals, I have told you that I worked for one of the city newspapers in Odessa. In 1975, I was assigned to write a major story on the glorious Odessa underground Nazi fighters. They were literally hiding underground as Odessa stands on catacombs. I had found and interviewed several who were still alive and around and submitted my story to the censors office, as was the procedure. My story was published literally cut to pieces. My department editor explained that to this day it is not clear who was a hero and who – a war criminal. In fact, about the same time, the city mayor was discovered to have been a Nazi collaborator.

  6. It’s Pointed Gourd.
Popular in North India and also most is South India.
    A healthy and tasty vegetable.
    Your recipe is too good.
    Better than ours.
Some people add garlic for some extra flavour.
Thank you so much Dolly for highlighting an Indian delicacy.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, dear Philo, but I honestly don’t think my recipe would be better than the original Indian ones. I thought of adding garlic next time. I love Indian food and experiment all the time.

No worries, sorry for posting that comment from my phone app account. I’ve been a bit under the weather the last couple of days and not gotten to my computer.

I love the Shabatai Tzvi reference!
I actually met a person claiming to be one of his descendants, when I worked in Turkey. I’d only just arrived at that time, so my Turkish was only rudimentary: he may have been related to one of the followers, rather than to Tzvi, himself. That got me to go look up the incident, which I’d not heard of until then.

Almost time to start prepping for Shabat again!
        Shabat Shalom!
