Shepherd Pie Light

Once again, it’s a National Pie Day, and Shepherd Pie is still a pie, isn’t it? Enjoy, Beautiful People!


I hope, who announced that today was a National Pie Day, agrees with my contention that Shepherd Pie is still a pie!

This is a light shepherd pie, so don’t expect to see lamb as a main ingredient. It’s turkey! Not only is it much healthier than lamb or beef, but it is also much cheaper, so you get to cut both dollars and cholesterol – can’t go better than that. The orange potato topping is a combination of your Bubbe’s regular potatoes and sweet potatoes which are generally considered the healthiest food in the world. So you cut on carbs as well, but at the same time, you gain on all kinds of vitamins and minerals (

  2. It looks like a delightful way to make a pie to me, although i’d have to sneak it past my Sweetie who cannot tolerate sweet potatoes. True story, when he and his twin were babies, Gerber was changing their baby food from cans to the little glass jars, so the PX allowed their dad to buy all the canned baby food they had left, over 150 cases of it. They ate everything except the two cases of sweet potatoes!

    1. Oh, just make it with regular potatoes, then! The only reason I make everything with sweet potatoes is to reduce sugar content for my husband. Believe it or not, regular potatoes are much more glycemic (create sugar in your body), than sweet potatoes. You can also use pumpkin, in the spirit of Fall.
