15 Down and Counting!

All this bean counting and portion measuring did bring a fantastic result! Drum roll, please:

During the last four weeks my husband has lost 15 lbs. There was no wacky diet to follow and no magic trick, other than the right selection of ingredients, extremely tight portion control, and a 30-minute walk every evening. His panel of young, but very knowledgeable doctors couldn’t believe the scale as the result has exceeded their expectations; they are thrilled, but not as thrilled as I am, since it is a huge step in the direction of health and the quality of life we both enjoy.

Just as the Fabulous Four keep crossing Abbey Road, we keep on going. Here is one of old recipes that came in very handy now: https://koolkosherkitchen.wordpress.com/2016/09/20/salad-out-of-nothing

Enjoy!

Good for him! It must be a good trick to do considering your delicious food!

    1. I am literally weighing and measuring everything that goes on his plate, and he is being very good about resisting junk food while on the road.

That snacking is the worst part for keeping good control of a diet! I have dietary limitations because of health issues, and the worst things I encounter eating in restaurants are too darn much salt in food and portion sizes better suited for lumberjacks than an old guy who gets significantly less exercise needs. That’s another reason to prepare food from scratch, too. I tried an herbed-butter instant potato product yesterday out of curiosity, and couldn’t finish a serving because the primary flavor was salt! The second packet in the box will go in the trash. I can produce the same thing with fresh products that is more to my taste (significantly less salt! fresher herbs), and the time spent in preparation is trivial.

      2. You are absolutely right! That’s why when we go out, we go for sushi and order dishes that do not contain anything but fish and vegetables (no rice). Then we use low sodium soy sauce, very sparingly. No canned or boxed products for me!

That’s why your recipes always look so yummy to me, Dolly! I see them as educational as well because you offer up suggestions for substitutes that make the recipes even healthier without sacrificing flavor.

Portion control is the only way to go for losing weight. Those fad diets are for the birds!!

    1. I don’t think birds would agree, but I can ask parrots who come visiting from the Parrot Jungle nearby and make such a racket in our courtyard! Thank you for stopping by, GP.

Actually birds eat 2 – 3x their weight every day – so – not for me.

  4. Congratulations, also from me. This is a very good result, and i feel it on myself, its very good for a healthier life. Even if all people around me wondering about the change of my “lifestyle”. When its so easy – without pills – living healthier, one had to do. Best wishes, Michael

Seriously, you had to count the beans in a bowl????

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I figure out how many beans go into a pot of soup (approximately, of course). I know how many bowls I get out of 4 quarts. Thus, I can calculate the number of beans in a bowl that would make 3/4 cup, which is all he is allowed per day. Seriously, I count, weigh, and measure everything.

👏👏👏 Keep up the good work, Dolly, both of you: you for counting before cooking, and your husband for not eating more than the allotted portions… Quite a feat! Not sure I could do it. Positive my own husband could not.
I am a firm believer of walking one’s way to good health. Do you go on the walks together?

    1. We do go on walks together, even though my doctors have warned me that I should not walk more than two blocks. I take my meds and keep on going.

Not sure how I missed this one.. Well done to you both.. You for the measuring and counting and hubby for sticking to it. Is it less strict now?… Love the commitment 😊xx

    1. Thank you so much, dear Carol! In fact, he has managed to lose 11 lbs more, and during traveling and holidays – amazing! I will discuss it in my next post. It isn’t less strict, as he has a long way to go, and then he’ll have to maintain healthy weight. His commitment comes from fear, and mine, of course, from even greater fear. He is going for tests in a couple of weeks – hopefully, all this effort translates into expected results!

I do hope so, Dolly as both of your commitments should be applauded…I do hope that is rewarded in the test results….I look forward to reading the post and will certainly share as although I don’t believe in restricting food groups as a lifestyle as a means to an end sometimes it may be a neccessity…<3
