Ceviche Spells Florida

Here is another raw fish recipe, indigenous to South and Latin America and extremely popular in Florida.

Nothing spells Florida like Ceviche!  This post is totally inspired by another blogger, a great and knowledgeable Odedi from Odedi’s Wine Review, who kept mentioning this and that wine with tuna ceviche. This is our little island, Miami Beach. Under each awning there is a restaurant that serves ceviche, and each one claims that it’s the only true ceviche, and everything else isn’t. So sure, go ahead with your tuna, you are no different from Ocean Drive restaurateurs! Incidentally, you are looking at News Cafe, of tragic Gianni Versace assassination notoriety. That does not stop hordes of tourists from sampling Florida cuisine, and no one is better to speak of Florida cuisine than the two famed chefs, Norman…

So many people in my life had made the comment to me “it totally went over your head” hahaaa. Sometimes I’m thinking one way and they are thinking another.

      10. True that! But also, I am just not in the schema because Jewish boys are considered adults at the age of 13, and girls at 12. Of course, I did not let my sons have more than 5 drops of wine at the table, but still, it was a mark of adulthood. I think that’s why they were never interested in getting drunk, as many college kids do.

      13. We actually have tiny little silver goblets for boys and crystal shot glasses for girls, and we made a big production of counting out 5 drops, undiluted. There is no significance to 5 that I know of; just a family tradition.

      15. Considering that the little silver goblets which are the exact miniature copies of the big one are at least 150 years old, the idea has been widespread in Eastern Europe way back when. I can’t take credit for it!

I have done quite a lot of volunteer fund raisers in my time. I’m always overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of others!

      19. I wish I were as overwhelmed when we did fundraisers for the school. It was always an uphill battle, and we never raised much. Grants were a much more viable source of support.

I was on the board of a Youth Ass. We also gave children sponsorship if they couldn’t afford soccer shoes, etc. We had one big fund raiser…silent auction. I even was able to get a Chevy dealer to donate a new car!!!

      23. They certainly do, but I have always been an advocate for the children, and in my mind and heart, nobody needs help as much as emotionally disabled, abused, and neglected children. Unfortunately, their existence is the best kept secret of any close-knit community, and they are considered “throw-away kids.” It makes me furious to even repeat this phrase, but there are people who actually say it and MEAN IT.

I worked with the children who were abused. Heart wrenching….After a few years….I just couldn’t keep it from coming home with me. It was effecting me, and I didn’t want it to effect my boys. Those children are forever imprinted in my mind and heart.

      25. You can imagine how many nights I cried my heart out, but I kept going, for 15 years, until retirement. We did take home some of the kids, once in a while, and had them stay with us. Our adopted son was the first one, actually.
